Three simple reminders that keep bringing me back to myself when life feels uncertain.
As I navigate this chapter of life — with so many unknowns and all the change that comes with midlife — there are three things I keep coming back to.
Things that help me return to myself.
Things that make me feel alive.
Reminders of who I am.
Ways of staying in the frequency of who I want to be, who I’m becoming.
This chapter can be confusing, lonely, amazing, beautiful, eye-opening, frustrating, magical, empowering, uncertain.
Sometimes all in the same hour.
More and more, I find myself needing daily reminders and practices to anchor me.
To bring me back to center.
These are three things I keep coming back to.
More and more, it feels like coming home to myself.
Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable (Even when Change Feels Hard)
Growth rarely feels comfortable, but learning to embrace discomfort has been one of the biggest catalysts for change in my life.
Truth is, I love my little comfort zone. It’s cozy, warm, familiar, safe. It’s designed that way. My ego wants to keep me right where I am. I love it. Until I don’t. Stagnation crushes my soul. Change asks something different. It asks me to get uncomfortable. Sometimes in big ways, giant leaps, by blowing things up and starting over. Other times in one small decision that changes everything.
Resisting discomfort doesn’t help. Trust me, I’ve tried.
Step into it. Make friends with it. Change is uncomfortable. There’s no way around it. The alternative is to stay the same, which (IMO) is far more uncomfortable.
Choose your discomfort.
Get in the Rooms
My Human Design is a Generator. I respond to life. The sparks don’t come from sitting in my house trying to figure everything out. They find me when I get out into the world.
Get in the rooms, around the people, in the places… do the things that make you feel alive.
The ones that stretch you.
Make you feel expansive.
Remind you who you are.
Notice when and where you feel this way.
Where you feel the most you.
Do more of that.
The Spark is Already Within You
The biggest shift I’ve experienced lately is realizing the feelings I’ve been chasing were never outside of me to begin with.
The feelings I desire — expansiveness, aliveness, joy, freedom — aren’t waiting for me somewhere “out there”. They’re already within me. The people, places, and experiences I seek don’t create those feelings. They awaken them.
Which means my job isn’t to chase them. It’s to nourish them.
And relentlessly choose the environments that fuel the spark within.
I sometimes forget these beautiful reminders. Then I remember. I slip back into old patterns… and keep coming back to what I know. That’s the practice. Returning. Choosing. Trusting. Over and over and over again. And every time I do, I come home to myself a little more.
